Imaginary Boundaries

Circlular inclosed building provides place where vistors can have their privacy and relax in calmness. While continuous grid columns outside stimulates vistors to recall from past memories and form their imaginative boundaries.

Each grid has their own directions. For example, + shaped column gives horizontal and vertical possibility of making the imaginative boundary. ㄴshaped column will give only northern and western direction whereas column with diagonal points will provide diagonal guide. Each columns have their own specific guide of directions, but it is vistors’ will to draw their own imaginative shelter.

It will be always different depending visitors’ emotion, memories and position. As visitors move through this space, the imaginative boundary will constantly be changing as a human always perceives and at the same time forgets. As vistors walk upward to the circular building thorugh the exposed staircase , they experiences whole new scenary due to change of altitude and new perception will form. When vistors reach the inclosed room where only subtle light is allowed to penetrate, they can restore and organize their thoughts and feelings for the next imaginative exercise.

Circular spaces in master plan and rectangular spaces in the drawing above are places where people travel to their private
areas. Random imaginations occurring outside the private spaces are expressed as an abstract art. Abstract arts have their own
beauty of randomness just like human’s imagination. When looking at abstract arts people have more tendency to see different
images and interpret in their own subjective ways than other arts. Controlling subjectivities is hard and when it comes to imagination,
it is even harder. One thing have to be clear in this brief is that I have to be in control of human experience which is
imagination. Like mentions earlier, imagination, especially in architecture, is expressed as a combination of perception and
projection. To present same imagination to visitors in certain building, new perception should be presented to people. New
perception from certain new type of architecture will results in new projection which will lead people to have same imagination
when they are occupying in such architecture.
